Culture of La Linea de la Concepcion

The most recent history of La Linea de la Concepcion is first apparent when entering the town. The line bunkers preserved reflect the years of conflict in the first half of the 20C, the “lines of fire” that can be visited as part of the town’s most important phases in contemporary history.
La Linea de la Concepcion most important cultural reference point are its three museums, each dedicated to its own special theme:

» The Istmus Museum: Located in the old military headquartes, The Comandancia, the oldest building in town, and dedicated to an important collection of archaeological fossils tracing the origins of the area. Other galleries are made available for visiting exhibitions.

» The Cruz Herrera Museum: Dedicated to the local artist Jose Cruz Herrera, renowned as one od Spain’s finest artists. The display includes some of his best works, of still life, landscapes, portraits and his famous nude studies.
Also on display are different artists throughout the year, acclaimed at national level, mostly dedicated to the municipal patronage of plastic arts.

» The Municipal Bullfighting Museum Pepe Cabrera: Hosting one of the most important collections in Spain, including thousands of photographs, branding irons from different breeders, the fighters “suits of lights”, trophies, capes, banderillas and posters.

» The Conservatory of Music Muñoz Molleda: is a professional 2nd Grade centre, with 14 music rooms. Classes include piano, guitar, violin, doublebass, clarinet and fagot. The Conservatory acts as a stimulus to local interest in music and promotes a series of top musical events during the year. La Linea has its own chamber orchestra “Cuidad de la Linea”, recognised internationally from its many concerts given abroad. The Municipality also supports and encourages a Theatre school and a dance school.

Throughout the year the municipal Cultural Foundation coordinates and supports the different entities in a cultural programme that includes theatre, cinema, music, photography and dance. Presentations include the amateur Theatre National Contest, the Andaluz Music Contest “Muñoz Molleda”, various national contests of folk and Spanish music and the traditional New Year Concert.
